Organization is extremely important for you to feel like you have your head screwed on, right? Yeah, me too! Everything needs to have its own place to rest so that it is easy to know where to find it the next time that you will call on that particular item. But yet, spices seem to get the short end of that deal, always unlabeled or kept in mismatched jars. With these DIY spice labels, you will be off to a really good start of having an organized spice area!
There are so many not-so-efficient ways to store spices that it makes my head spin. So when we moved into our first home with just a small amount of cabinet space, I had to change things up! Enter the spices in a drawer. Unfortunately, this didn’t solve the whole problem because I couldn’t read the labels. So, I purchased new spice jars like these here and set out to make labels. (I actually went a bit crazy and made labels for my spices and for my baking containers, using all the same font of course).

Since I am all about not spending money that you don’t have to spend, I am making this super cheap as well as fairly easy. All you will absolutely need is paper, a printer, scissors, and clear packing tape. If you have a circle cutter that cuts about 1 1/4” circles, that would be super handy too. I actually used this one here because I use to do a a lot of scrapbooking. You will also need clean containers for your spices and for your baking supplies (flour, sugar, brown sugar, etc.)
*Please know that this is a non-comprehensive list of spices. I listed the more common spices and baking supplies, but may have missed specialty ones. I used the Papyrus font at size 12 just in case you would like to replicate it. *
1. Print off your labels

2. Cut out your labels using a consistent size.
Measure the lids of the spice containers. You will want to cut out a circle that is 1/4”-1/2” smaller than the lid. For the sides and the baking supplies, you can draw light lines on the back of the paper using a ruler or a straight edge. This will help you cut straighter lines and be more consistent. If you have a paper cutter, you can use that as well.
3. Clean your jars
Be sure that the outside of your containers are clean. Wipe off any fingerprints too. The tape will really show the fingerprints if you forget this step.
4. Place the label on the tape
Facing down, place the label on the packing tape. Space them apart wide enough to cut them out.
5. Cut out your tape
Once your labels are on your tape, cut out the tape giving about 1/4” border around the edges for the circular labels and more for the side labels. I used about 1/4”-1/2” border around the paper for my baking supply labels.
6. Place your labels
Place your labels on the containers where you want them:)
Put your spices back in their spot and admire just how organized and easy to find they are!
