How to clean your house fast and efficiently!
Cleaning your space daily can seem a bit overwhelming at first glance, but I promise you that it isn’t! Once you commit to a few key steps to take each day, you will learn how to clean your house fast! It will be a life changer, I promise.
When I first had Little Mister, I was cleaning all of the time. I am not even joking when I say that I was OCD about pretty much everything. By the time he learned how to make a mess (which happens all too quickly really) I had to make a choice. I was either going to clean all day, every day, or I was going to clean once a day.
Since I decided to clean only once a day, I have been less stressed over cleaning and better able to pass a mess because I know that I will get it later. And, I have really honed in on exactly what I need to clean daily so that I get get it done quickly! If you are feeling overwhelmed by cleaning your messy house, then you need these tips in your life!
A few easy tips to get your house clean daily and quickly
Clean house fast tip #1
First things first, you need to commit to making your cleaning a daily habit. When you do a small amount of cleaning each day, you will pretty much always have a fairly tidy home and you won’t find yourself doing a large cleaning day all of the time either. This daily cleaning will take you about 15 minutes, with the right tools (I will get to those in a minute).
Clean house fast tip #2
Probably the hardest part about making this new habit will be getting your family on board with cleaning daily. If they are never a part of your cleaning routine, then it is a good opportunity to add in a new task or chore and get everyone acquainted to the idea. If your family already has cleaning tasks each week, then just add on a new task for each day. Remind them that it will take 15 minutes out of their night (or morning, however you choose)…that is it!
Clean house fast tip #3
Take inventory of what needs to be done each night in order to be able to go to bed with a fairly clean and tidy home. *Note* if you want to clean in the am, then that is okay too. Just whatever works best for you. This could be things like loading the dishwasher, vacuuming the floors, picking up the clutter, taking out the garbage and recycling. It is a small, but super helpful, course from Money Saving Mom that I really attribute to changing my habits and routine for the better!
Clean house fast tip #4
My number 1 secret to getting your house clean (and keeping it that way) is picking up and cleaning up as we go along. Loading the dishwasher happens at each meal time. Toy pick up generally happens when Little Mister is transitioning to a new toy. A quick wipe down of the toilet can be done when you are finished going to the bathroom. These small steps throughout the day may only take 1 or 2 minutes, but it really does give a better sense of clean to your home. Take a moment to list the small tasks that you can do throughout the day and commit to doing 2 today!
My 3 secrets to quickly cleaning every day
Cleaning secret #1- a good vacuum
Getting the right cleaning tools is imperative and so my #1 secret is a good vacuum. After getting a dog, we quickly realized that doing the swiffer each day just wasn’t cutting it! While so many people love their robotized vacuums, I like to buy appliances with a bit more versatility than that and that is how I came to know and love my Dyson stick vac. This thing is truly amazing especially for those with kids and pets. You can use it as a stick vac for the floors, a handheld for a car clean out or vacuuming the stairs, and there are even multiple attachments that are included for quickly cleaning pretty much anything.
Cleaning secret #2- cleaning cloths
These aren’t really a secret (but maybe they are to you), but E-cloths have to be the best invention ever! If you have heard of Norwex, then these are just like them only more affordable! I love that you can clean your home with just water or even just the cloth. I love to use the dusting mitt to quickly wipe dust off of my surfaces. And if you have messy bathroom people in your home like I do, then a quick wipe down each day with a damp cloth means you have a clean looking bathroom in no time!
Cleaning secret #3- a clutter basket
If you live in a home bigger than about 1,000 sqft, you need to have a clutter basket. We live in a 3 story condo, so I find that my family doesn’t want to go up and down the stairs repeatedly while cleaning the house. Because of this, I am a huge fan of grabbing a laundry basket, tossing anything in there that isn’t in the correct room, and then dropping items off in the correct space as I go along. You may consider just placing a small basket somewhere that has the same function. This is a quick and easy way to cleaning efficiently.
Cleaning efficiently is the key
Are you highly distractible by things such as your tv or phone? Yeah, me too. And so is my kiddo. So when we do our nightly cleaning, we turn off all of the distractions and get to work. That means turn off ringers if you need to , put all the devices in “jail” until the cleaning is done, or whatever else you can think of that will inhibit your progress.
Kids also do great with a timer being set so that they can race the clock. You may be surprised, they may get done sooner than you think. Of course, I also do well with a timer being set ( I am sitting here writing this post out with a timer set). Generally it is so that I don’t get too carried away with cleaning. Remember that this is suppose to be a quick clean up every day.
Cleaning your house fast like this described above can be reserved for that daily cleaning. If you like to do a deeper cleaning, reserve that for a day that you have more time. Because you are cleaning daily, your deep cleaning should go a lot faster too! I have got my deep cleaning down to about an hour, unless I am teaching Little Mister a new cleaning skill. I also tend to do a seasonal cleaning once or twice a year, such as a spring cleaning. You can get the spring cleaning checklist here to help you with your cleaning next spring.
Get it done, fast!
Learning how to clean your house fast is not really rocket science, but it can take a lot of motivation. Take the 4 tips into consideration when you are planning your daily cleaning routine, get yourself those 3 little secrets that I mentioned, and clean efficiently so that you can continue your progress. You can do this mama! You will feel so much lighter each day. I promise!
