We had a long car trip recently. You know what that means? Besides the loud noise from the cats meowing, the child yelling, asking “are we there yet”, asking for the thing that he dropped…again, multiple truck stops for bathroom breaks, and greasy food…but I digress. It really means that I got to take my oils to go!
It never fails, something always happens during a car trip. Usually it is that I got a hold of some dairy product somehow and now my stomach is a mess. With a toddler and kitties in tow, it may end up being a bit more exciting than that! (Let’s pray it is not too bad!). Now, I am armed with my essential oils which helped us get through the trip with as little trouble as possible.
I know, you probably think I am crazy for thinking that oils can help that much, but seriously, they can. I am going to tell you about my favorite oils to keep with me on the go and why you will want to keep a stash of them too!
My top 8 essential oils for travel…
Digestzen has been a belly saver many times over. This will help calm an upset stomach, relieve travelers constipation, quell vomiting and nausea, and decrease stomach acid. These sound very much like your last car trip, right? Take a drop or two in a capsule or in some water, rub on the belly, or even inhale aromatically to help quell nausea.
Lavender is well known for helping humans sleep, but did you know that it can also help animals. A bit of lavender and they can be calmed from a storm, new people, or a car trip. It smells amazing too!
With all the greasy food that we get while on the road, a bit of Lemon would do us well! It is a great detoxing oil. A couple drops in water or tea will help keep all the bad stuff at bay.
If you have little ones, you know how quickly they can get sick. The change of weather, playing in a play place, interacting with other sick ones will all lead to a bit of a cold at least. OnGuard is dōTERRA’s immunity blend that is perfect for boosting that immune system so that they can fight the funk.
Melaleuca is another one that should go hand in hand with children. If you have a child, you should have this oil:). It helps to heal all those scrapes and cuts that they seem to get.
Is it just me or does everyone get a headache on the road. It may be my glasses really, but I kinda need those while driving. Peppermint is great for headaches. It also can freshen your breath too, just in case you don’t have a chance to brush your teeth after that third cup of coffee. And if the coffee didn’t help perk you up, smell some peppermint!
Grapefruit is another one that is good for detoxing. It can also curb those cravings for (yet another) piece of candy…just to keep you awake, right ?.
If you need some motivation, diffuse a Wild Orange and Peppermint combo. This is a must try! I would use it on my drive, but since citrus oils are a no go for kitties, I will have to just put a few drops of Wild Orange in my water.
In all reality, car trips are usually not too bad for this household. Little Mister was really good during the trip with only one small “I am hungry” fit. The cats, well, not so much. They were pretty loud, but that is expected. Little Mister won’t sleep in the car anyway. Quite its overrated.
Essential oils can be used pretty much any time and anywhere. It is really handy to have them packed up with you so that they are accessible. That is why the oil holder keychain is a must! Take these top 8 oils with you whenever you have your keychain with you (which is like all the time practically, right?). Click here to learn about getting your own oils for your next trip.
